About BlackBerry Desktop Manager

The BlackBerry® Desktop Manager is designed to link the content and applications on a BlackBerry device with your computer.


Use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to do the following tasks:

  • Synchronize your organizer data (calendar entries, contacts, tasks, and memos) and media files (music, pictures, and videos)
  • Back up and restore BlackBerry device data
  • Manage and update BlackBerry device applications
  • Transfer BlackBerry device settings and data to a new BlackBerry device
  • Use the BlackBerry device as a modem to connect to the Internet from a computer
  • Manage multiple devices
  • Charge the device

The Home screen of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager provides information about the connected BlackBerry device, such as the model information and the last dates that data was backed up and synchronized. The Home screen can also provide quick access to common tasks, such as backing up data, opening BlackBerry device options, checking for BlackBerry® Device Software updates, and synchronizing organizer data and media files.


If the customer used the BlackBerry Desktop Manager with other BlackBerry devices, they can connect these BlackBerry devices and switch between them using the Device menu.


Download BlackBerry Desktop Manager

For more information about how to download the most recent version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager, visit www.blackberry.com. Double-click the downloaded file, and then follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

Check for BlackBerry Desktop Manager updates

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0.1

  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Click Help.
  3. Click Check For Updates.
  4. If an update is available, review the information on the screen and if you want to install it, click Get Update.
  5. After the update downloads, close the BlackBerry® Desktop Software when you are prompted to.
  6. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software again to complete the installation.
  7. Click Close after the update is complete.

BlackBerry Device Software 6.0 to 7.0


  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Click the ? icon in the upper-right corner to access the Help menu.
  3. Click Check For Updates.
  4. If an update is available, review the information on the screen and if you want to install it, click Get update.
  5. After the update downloads, close the BlackBerry® Desktop Software when you are prompted to.
  6. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software again to complete the installation.
  7. Click Close after the update is complete.
